I’ve been gently bullying my friends into yoga

I wanted to depart from my usual format in this post, for a very specific reason: to talk about the benefits of having a yoga teacher friend – even if you’re not a yoga practitioner, yourself.

You see, obviously, I’ve experienced the benefits of a regular yoga practice; part of the reason I wanted to become a yoga teacher was to share this with others.

A few people have been to my classes once or twice, now and a few are already regulars; but as a “yoga teacher friend” for several people I must admit to (gently!!) bullying them to try to get them to come to a class. Because I know they’ll feel better.

One of my friends did come to a class recently, and sent me a message afterwards that included the phrases “I feel like I need more of it” and “I’d love to come every week”.

So, I felt quite vindicated – because I was right, and I helped my friend feel good. I knew I would!

It’s not a unique story – it’s just what happens, pretty much every time, when someone finally says yes.

Or perhaps you’d be more like the student who shared before the start of class that they’d “only just recovered from last week ☺️” – as I joked they’d put a new student off coming back – before they said “no, but it’s in the best way 🥹 I’ve been really looking forward to this”.

So, I think – if you’ve got a yoga teacher friend (or a friend who teaches another movement form) and they’re suggesting their class to you; don’t put it off, give it a try. The worst thing that happens is you didn’t enjoy it (but now you know). Because I guarantee they’re not doing it to try and make money from you. Unless they’re a bad friend…but I’m guessing you’d already know if they are.
